Hadrian's Wall - A Walk Through Roman History

This is a great walk, with a lot of scenic variety from the modern, busy cityscapes of Newcastle Upon Tyne to the red sandstone hues of medieval Carlisle. From the barren blustery heights of Highshields Crags in the Northumberland National Park; to the lime green pastoral scenes of the Eden valley.

Omnipotent along the route the Wall snakes its way. In sections interrupting a housing estate here, popping up under a road there. Then from being little more than a grassy bank it transforms into stone and rollercoasters over crag tops and down into impressive fort like structures such as at Housesteads.

Duration: 7 nights/8 days
Grade: Easy - Moderate
Day Stages: Minimum 12 miles, max 16 1/2 miles
SELF-GUIDED Dates: March - Mid October

The Cleveland Way - Bracing Walking on North Yorkshire Trails

The Cleveland Way was opened in May 1969; the second of the British National Trails after the Pennine Way. It stretches for approximately 110 miles/177km along the edge of the North York Moors and the North Yorkshire Coast and reaches its highest point on Urra Moor 454m (1,489ft).

The scenery encompasses farming landscapes and forests - some have hardly changed for centuries - dramatic rolling country with abrupt scarps and sandstone edges, bleak moors, dramatic cliff and beach seaside scenery. It semicircles the largest open moorland in England and then follows the Heritage Coast on top of rugged, but grassy cliffs. Eighty percent of the trail is within the North York Moors National Park.

Duration: 11 nights/12 days
Grade: Moderate
Day Stages: Min 7 miles, max 14 miles
SELF-GUIDED Dates:  March - mid October

The Dales Way - Hiking Through the Yorkshire Dales

The Yorkshire Dales are an idyllic pastoral landscape of green valleys criss-crossed by dry-stone walls marking field boundaries. Picturesque villages and hamlets consisting of little more than a pub and post office abound. Old farmhouses and ‘stone barns’ dot the valley sides.

Above the Dales are open rolling moorlands rising to 600m (2000 feet) or more. This tour includes the whole of the much loved Dales Way long distance path, which runs right across the Yorkshire Dales National Park and on to the shores of Windermere in the Lake District National Park.
